Friday, June 4 2010 - Speed River Middle Distance Inferno Set For Tomorrow Night
The Speed River Middle Distance Inferno will be held tomorrow night at St James Catholic High School in Guelph, Ontario. The meet will conclude the three meet 401 Distance Series which began last Saturday in Windsor and also had a stop Wednesday night in London. Saturday’s event will be unique in its format as the entire program will be completed in one hour. The races will begin at 7 pm with the men’s 600 metres.

Very strong fields are expected in all the events. The men’s 600 will be led by Geoff Harris who captured the silver medal at last year’s Canadian Championships in the 800 metres. The women’s 600 metres is expected to be a dual between Melissa Bishop, who is the Canadian University Champion in the event and local favourite Rachel Aubry. The penultimate event of the evening will be the women's 1500 metres. A outstanding field will led by Four time Canadian Champion over 5000 metres Megan Wright and Speed River’s own Amber McGown will be on hand. Two time Canadian Champion Hilary Stellingwerff will be pacing the field that also includes Canada’s top two junior athletes Jessica Parry of London and Speed River’s Genevieve Lalonde.

The night will conclude with an attempt at the first ever sub four mile in Wellington County. There have been 41 Canadians who have broken the barrier and two of the newest members of the club Taylor Milne and Kyle Boorsma will be in the field looking to repeat the feat at home. Five of the top seven performers in Canada this year will be in the field, so it promises to be a very strong finish to the event.

Full entries are available here.

Wednesday, June 2 2010 - Milne Continues To Dominate 401 Distance Series
The newly launched 401 Distance Series and Taylor Milne seem to be a match made in heaven. After running a stellar 1500 Saturday night at the series first stop in Windsor, Milne was back in action Wednesday night in London at the London Distance Classic, the second stop of the series. Milne once again impressed running a personal best and Speed River club record time of 1 minute and 48.56 seconds to win the men’s 800 metres by the slimmest of margins holding off a fast closing Kyle Smith by 1/100th of a second. Milne’s time also broke the TD Waterhouse Stadium record.

Joining Milne as a newly minted stadium record holder was his Speed River teammate Robin Watson who added the 3000 metre record to the 3000 metre steeplechase record he already held. Watson used a furious last 1000 metres to run away from the field and secure the record and the win in a time of 8 minutes 11.12 seconds. Other Speed River top three finishers at the meet were Hilary Stellingwerff second in the women’s 800 metres in 2 minutes 6.88 seconds and Samantha Beattie second in the women’s 3000 metres in 9 minutes 59.99 seconds.

The 401 series will conclude Saturday evening with the Speed River Middle Distance Inferno which will be hosted at St James High School in Guelph. The action will start at 7pm with the men’s 600 metres and will culminate in Milne’s attempt to become the first athlete to break the four minute mile in Wellington County in the men's mile which will be run at 7:45 pm.
