  The Speed River Track and Field Club was founded in 1997 by Dave Scott-Thomas as a club for University of Guelph student athletes and local runners.  Over the past ten years the club has grown in size and scope, to accommodate and attract athletes of all ages from across the country and has developed into the strongest middle distance and distance track and field club in Canada.  

Since 2007 five Speed River athletes have represented Canada at a Major Championships including two at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and two more at the 2009 World Track and Field Championships.  The club currently has eleven athletes ranked in the top five nationally in their respective events and has set a goal of having eight athletes competing at the London 2012 Olympics.

The Speed River brand offers many layers including youth oriented programing, an Athletics Canada (track and field’s governing body in Canada) designated National Training Center, an elite training group, one of the countries most popular track and field websites and a series of five road and trail races.

Big Weekend Ahead For Speed River Athletes

Big Weekend For Speed River! Reid Coolsaet will be racing the 5000 metres at the Boston Indoor Games. In Stuttgart, Hilary Stellingwerff racing a 1500 at the Sparkassen Cup. Finally a big crew of Speed River athletes will be racing at Notre Dame University in Indiana at the Meyo Invitational. University of Guelph senior Kyle Boorsma will try to make history tomorrow at the New Balance Games in New York City. Boorsma will try to become the first Canadian University (CIS) athlete to run a sub four minute mile in season.
